zoanthind polyps

just purchased a zoanthid frag 4 to 5 days ago and i dont know if this is how they grow but theres a cloud like texture that embodies and open part of the frag. any idea what this is?

It could be mucous that it expelled due to stress. Keep an eye on it and see if it clears up. Some of my corals do that then clear up after a few days.

I agree with mucous. Sometimes I will just blow that off with a baster or just point a power head in that direction to get it off then put it back how it was.

zoas dissolve when not happy. could be the start.
