View Full Version : Rod's Reef Frozen Food Group Order

Hey all,

I am going to order some of Rod Buehler's specialized frozen food for my onyx clowns from Premium Aquatics and am curious if anybody else wants any. I'm ordering two for myself but have to pay a hefty two day air fee (ships in styrofoam box w/ ice) and it would be much more cost effective if anyone else wants in and split the shipping.

If you don't know anything about this food, read up on it here (http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=RR-FOOD-6&Category_Code=Mysis)

They're great for not just his onyx clownfish, but all fish and it has tons of variety and nutrition; it really helps fatten and color up your fish. If anyone's interested, I would like to put an order together and call it in Monday afternoon, to have it shipped Tuesday. I'm in Cupertino and work in Palo Alto so this could work for people in the South Bay. Reply here if you're interested and I'll set up a paypal account to get this rolling. We can fit up to 10 packets of food.

Thanks,
Mike

here is what was doen last time-$18 each shipped.
http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1084144
But if no one in in San Francisco I'd go with 3 from Premium assuming other tag along to split the shipping.

OK so I looked over the thread from last time about the group order that Klam put together for Rod's food and sent him a PM about how he got the price down to $18 shipped. I'll try and get all the details put together about where the cheapest place is to get this stuff and keep you guys updated.

For now I have as follows:
norcal99(2)
mcurl98(3)
lbear(1)
zepplock(1)

If we could get 3 more packets together I think we might be golden. It seems like it's probably easiest for me to front the costs. I'll keep everyone updated about the final price as I get information before I start taking paypal and your information.

Thnx,
Mike

If everyone is committed, we would have ten packets, enough to fill our order. If we order from Premium Aquatics, it would be $25 shipped per pack. I spoke with klam11 earlier today about the group buy he put together back in early spring, and if we can generate a lot more interest (~30 packets), we might be able to get the price down to $20/pack going directly through his local vendor. As of now, I would be comfortable ordering 10 packs through premium aquatics, but if there is a lot more interest, I will explore a larger order.

Please reply to this thread and confirm that you are committed to the group buy. As soon as I receive everyone's confirmation, I will start collecting paypal payments for your orders and place the order. If all goes well and I receive everyone's paypal payments (or at least confirmation), I'll call the order in first thing Tuesday morning for a Thursday delivery. So for the three who haven't replied, let me know ASAP.

This is what I found out from our local San Francisco authorized dealer for Rod's Frozen food if you are interested in possibly ordering through them. KM Associates Int'l can do $20/pack pick up in San Francisco at his location for 15-20 packs. They are located between 6th Ave and Lucky Ocean. For 30-35 packs, it will drop to $18/pack picked up. He has no problem with individuals picking up directly from him as long as you give him a list norcal99. This is what he did for me last time. He says payments if paid by instant transfer is no additional fees, but with credit card, it is a 3.5% service charge added. The above prices includes both sales tax and s/h to bring them in. Hope this helps you save a few dollars. You don't have to use them if you don't want to, but I like to support local businesses, especially if they are an authorized dealer for Rod's Frozen food.

mike, just in case you need their contact info:
http://home.wwdb.org/kmaintl

ed (owner of kmaintl) said that Rod could ship as early as tomorrow or wednesday. forgot to mention this. as for the order size, for the $20/pack, it has to be minimum 15 packs, but no more than 20 packs. has something to do with shipping box size and dry ice. the larger shipping is minimum 30 packs to no more than 35 packs. hope that helps.

I bought all my Deltec skimmers from Ed. His service is great.

norcal99
08/13/2007, 06:31 PM
If we want, we can order through Ed since he is local and save about $5.50 per pack. I can refund the difference to those who have already paypal'd me. If no one else is closer, I could pick up the packets for those in the South Bay and bring them back. We would however need 5 more people to commit bringing our grand total up to 15.

For me, I don't mind paying a few bucks extra and have it shipped to me directly as opposed to driving to SF given the high price of gas. Thoughts/comments?

norcal99
08/13/2007, 07:36 PM
Currently, we have 10 packs of food bringing the total to $25.50. If we get 5 more orders, we can take advantage of the deal Klam11 wrote out and bring the price down to $20, picked up from the local store in San Francisco.

Mike-Thanks for organizing this-these things always get complicated. I'm open to whatever but know I don't want to make the trip to San Francisco as it will cost me about $35 round trip. I don't suppose we could pay Ed but Ed tells Rod to ship directly to you? If needed, I can bump my order up by a couple packs-these things really keep well in the freezer. Once a final decision is made, I'll PayPal you.

If we get 5 more orders, we can take advantage of the deal Klam11 wrote out and bring the price down to $20, picked up from the local store in San Francisco. Ed use to have a 3 room office & client meeting area until late last year. Now he & his partner works out of his home. So, it's not a store front. He is located between 2 LFS in San Francisco, 6th Ave LFS and Lucky Ocean LFS. It's worth a trip to his place just to see his display tanks that he has setup to show new clients what they can do with lighting, skimmers, etc.

I purchased 3 packs in the last Group Buy and just open my 2nd pack. They last a long time, one pack maybe last 3 or 4 months. My clownfishes and everything else in the tank goes crazy when this food is dropped into the water.

norcal99

Ok due to some increased interest, lets keep this buy open for another day to see if there is any more interest. I believe we will have enough orders to take advantage of going through Klam11's vendor, Ed. Price will tentatively be set at $20/pack picked up at his residence. I believe the $20/pack is good for 15-20 orders, after that the price decreases. Here is the list as of now:

For those in the South Bay who have already paid me, I will refund you the difference once we receive the final head count and place the order with Ed. I will be making a trip to SF this weekend assuming the food comes in this week. At that time, please let me know who I need to pick food up for. If some of you who have already paid are closer to SF than I am, you're more than welcome to pick it up yourself. Just let me know and I can refund your paypal payments if necessary.

Questions and all the sort, please contact me via PM or email. I will call klam11 today and update him on our order status. For the sake of making things easier on me, you have until 10PM TONIGHT to get your order requests in. I hate to say it but if you're committing to this, please be courteous to our vender and don't back out. It'll be a hassle for him and he's doing a huge favor to us all.

Keep the good times rolling...

Hey Mike, I just logged on this morning and your GB is doing really well. When you are finished, please go ahead an contact Ed at KM Associates Int'l directly and he can work out all the details with you. If you want the SF guys to pay directly to KMAIntl, that wasn't a problem when we did our last GB, but best check with Ed. All I know is that he does require full pre-payment before he places the order. Mike, I will PM Ed's PayPal information if you want the SF guys to pay him directly.

EDIT - 3.5% more for those using credit or debit card to make payment or $20.70/pack. PayPal info for KMA Int'l has been PMd to norcal99. Mike in charge of how the payments will go. Maximum on the small box shipment is 20 packs. I hope you all don't mind, but I will bow out now as I have so much to do with remodeling, etc. of our new place.

Kien - Thanks for the contact info.

I will touching bases with Ed sometime today and making sure that everything is a definite "go" and finalized prices. Lets try and get this settled tonight so tomorrow morning the order can be placed. Sit tight and we'll get all the details hammered out.

To those residing in the SF area- Once I get everything settled, I will contact you and you can make your paypal payments to Ed directly and pick them up yourselves, or however else you want to organize a pickup.

To those in the South Bay area- Same as the above, but notify me if you need me to pick up food packets for you. You can either paypal Ed or me although it would make sense for those who haven't already paid to pay Ed directly.

OK folks here's the final info from our vendor, Ed:

Each package is going to cost the following:
- $20 for Paypal payments from a bank/existing funds
- $20.70 for Paypal Credit Card Payments

I will contact each of you individually with Ed's Paypal address. Send your payments to him and he will in turn send me an updated list of each person's payments as they come in. Make sure to pay him ASAP as he is fronting the costs.

He is ordering 20 packets of food currently so this is the LAST CALL for Rod's food. You need to contact me by 10PM tonight and then I will send you payment info which should be made immediately. Hate to beat a dead horse, but I am calling our vendor first thing tomorrow morning with our total number of orders, so please be timely.

Be sure to thank our vendor Ed at KMA International for hooking up this great deal!

Any questions, please send me a PM.
