On my used Hamilton MH retro kit I got a few weeks, it seems like right above the bulbs the reflector is wearing away. Is there any suggestions on what can be done to improve the quality of light besides completely replacing the reflector?

One suggestion I heard was to get a reflective sheet say 5x8 inches and glue it to the reflector right above the bulb.

If this is a good idea, any suggestions on where to get a reflective material like this?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

I bought stainless steel polish from Home Depot to clean my reflectors. I haven't used it yet, but I'll let you know if they work out for me.

My reflector might be beyond the point of polishing.

Would it be completely retarded to just buy a 6"x3" reflector and glue it above the bulb? I know that sounds ghetto, but it's a fast cheap fix. Here is what I saw:

Any opinions on this?

If its the flat part directly above the bulbs I wuoldn't worry about it too much

Most of that light is getting reflected back directly into the bulbs.. You are losing that light due to restrike anyways...

hmmm, good point. And yes it is the flat part right above the bulb. Another thing is the 2 VHO's in my retro kit block the light from the edges of the reflector that angle downward. Does this have a huge negative effect on the efficiency of the reflector?

I'm basically evaluating my light set up, which I bought even tho it wasn't in tip top condition, but it was a great deal. A friend mentioned he thought my lights weren't putting out as much as they should be.

So I'm just looking for any problems I have or suggestions as how I can improve my lights without spending a ton of cash.

The space in my canopy is someone limited. It's something like 59"L x 16w x 6.5 inches tall of internal space. Don't think luminars or anything like that would fit inside.

Here are a few pics of my retro kit:

What kelvin bulbs are you running and how old are they? I think I remember you were saying that they were 175's right?

Your reflector simply looks like white paint, just repaint it white.

The bulbs are 175 watts. The bulbs are new, I just replaced them 2 weeks ago. Yes the reflector is just white. It's the hamilton retro kit one. Are these junk?

I'm debating trying to fit some small pendants or reflector in there if I can find some for cheap.

If I do just paint it, just use a high heat paint?

Honestly, yes. It's flat, it's white, so you literally could get away with the same thing if you painted the inside of your canopy white.

do you have any other suggestions for reflectors that are farely inexpensive?
