you shouldnt put mags on wavetimers. they have enough trouble starting after regular maintenance. they would get murdered shutting on and off every 30 seconds...

most people use maxi-jet powerheads to do this. they are some of the most reliable avaliable.

if you want more powerful water movememnt (im not sure what your keeping or how large your tank is) look at these

www.reeftec.com

there are some external powerheads avaliable also that cost about $80 each. they move quite a bit of water, though no where near the amount the reeftecs move.

there are gemini pumps (if the link doesnt work go to www.thatpetplace.com and search for "gemini")

and there are hi-tech powerheads (these dont come with mounting brackets)

you could always just use two or three maxi-jet 1200s on each side of the tank also.

i dont think there are any pumps that are external that will be reliable enough to stand a wavemaker.

most people that do this end up using a large pump (ampmaster 3000) and 3-way motorized ball valves

the ball valve is put on a wavemaker and will rotate so the water will either go through the left side or the right side.

you plumb the returns to opposite sides of the tank, and you have water movemement.

do a search for "motorized ball valves" and you should get a heck of a lot to look at.

Naked, I'm starting a similar investigation. Can you share what you ended up doing?

Champion Lighting uses Gen-X external pumps for there wavemaker (I think they use an Octopus 3000). Check their site.
