120 skimmer

i currently have a mrc mr-1 for my 120. looking for best bang for my buck and also best skimmer for my 120? online store or LFS for buying skimmer? the mr-1 skimmer is okay i just hate the collection cup design and have to mess with it every time i clean the cup out.

A DAS ex-1 or ex-2 would work fine, as would a mesh-modded octopus nw200 or a custom Orca (protein-skimmer.com)
It depends on what you want to spend and what you are going to keep in your 120

well i most have soft corals but a few sps.
thanks for the info on the skimmers. i have just had it with my old skimmer.

Bebo why are you reccomending a HOB skimmer to someone with an in sump skimmer

there are lots of in sump skimmers that will work much better...

A MCE500 would the last skimmer I recommend for a 120g tank.

Infact any decent insump skimmer will skim circles around any HOB skimmers Deltec or otherwise. Bad advice IMO

I'd have to agree with D about the deltec hot, that seemed like it came out of left field imo. Anyhow, i'd say go with a octo200nw skimmer, will work great especially if you meshmod it and boar out the venturi, and your talkin 200bux. A better skimmer would be the daxex2 but much more expensive. Just depends on your wallet. I'd personally go with the octo200 and recirc it for a few extra bux. It would then handle around a 225g tank.

well i dont have an in sump skimmer. my mr-1 sits on the outside of the sump. the only thing thats inside my sump for it is it's pump.

so what's stopping you from getting a decent insump skimmer for that sump? Must be awfully lonely in there with just the return pump :)

the return pump isn't even in there. i do have live rock, macro algea, two pumps-skimmer pump and my uv/chiller pump inside my sump. so my sump isnt lonely.
