Hi all,

I am planning to add more fish to my 55 gallon tank. Currently I have 1 Blue Hippo Tang and 2 Percula Clown, 2 palys, 1 ricordea, and 1 zoo. For lighting, I have a 234 watt Tek fixture.

What are you recommendations for the reef safe fish and reputable places to buy them? I

Below are the list of fish that I have in mind:
- Yellow Watchman Goby
- Blue / Green Chromis
- 6/4 line wrasses (I have heard problems of this fish attacking other fish)
- Coral Beauty (I heard there is risk of them nipping on corals)

I prefer the fish are more disease resistant (to ich) for example.
If you have any of the above or other fish for sale, let me know.

Many thanks. =D

Most fairy/flasher/filamented flashers are great additions, they look nice and are peacefull.

Hi Charles,

Thank you for the lists.
Any suggestion of a reputable fish store to buy them. The closer to Daly City, the better. I work in the Palo Alto area, so any fish store close to this area is fine too.

Thanks for the information, Mike126.

I forgot to mention that I have 2 skunk cleaner shrimps. Would the 6 line wrasse bothers them?

If you shrimps are big enough... no..
Plus it also depends how situated the 6line is.. especially if he was the first fish in the tank... and how big he is....

I would go to Aquatic Central at Ocean ave in SF... mins from DC.
or Ultimate Aquarium near BMW near hillsdale mall.
Ocean Treasures in Duboce in SF has some nice fish as well..

but I've done online fish buying from REEFHOTSPOT.. good folks there,

watch out with the 4/6/8 line wrasses, they are pretty territorial and aggressive, especially when they get bigger or are in before other fish. but seems the other fish you listed (current tang, shrimp, and clowns) potential (angel, goby, chromis) generally can handle their own with a 6-line, but watch out if you put in any other wrasses, firefish, anthias, etc..

in terms of ability to scavenge for potential parasites of corals, the 6 line is good, but yellow coris are just as good and are not as aggressive normally.. but should be fine with 6-line if you like them.

i liked the color scheme on them, but after having two 6-lines and a disappearing wrasse (similar to 6-line) and taking them all out out after them getting somewhat aggressive i went with a yellow coris and started picking from other wrasses/anthias that were equally colorful/interesting. agree with delsol, you might check out some of the fairy/flasher wrasses..

I dont think the coral beauty would work out, because you have a blue tang. Hmm gobies are pretty cool, clown gobies they are pretty cool I rarely seen them. The first time I seen one was in Charles tank, neat fish it climbs rocks and sits near corals. Some other fish are firefish, bar goby, when getting a sand sifting goby make sure your rocks are deep enough. I read somewhere a guy added a sand sifting goby and it dug too deep in the sand and caused the rocks to fall. Hmm how about royal grammas? Blackcap Basslet.

Hey otto how much did you pay for the dissapearing wrasse?

After seeing my friends yasha hase goby, that thing is pretty cool. Tho they stay pretty small, so not sure how your tang would affect it. Altho they hang out in different areas, so they should be ok. Let others chime in on this.

As delsol stated, I am also a wrasse kinda guy. Just be careful which ones you pick. Stay away fromt he sixline/4/8 line etc. They have bad reps. Leopards can be pretty tough and hard to take care of. Also think about how many fish you want because you have a 55 gallon tank, so you can have a lot of really small fish or only a few larger ones.

I'd recommend Aquatic Central on ocean avenue in SF on tuesday or wednesdays. They get their shipments on tuesdays and wednesdays.

Good luck with your choices.

Also Aquatic Centrals they take specail orders for wrasses. A worker there Mark told me just talk to chris and he will get it for you.

Awesome, thank you all for all of your help =)
Now it is shopping time.

My wife complains that I need to have more fish in the tank.
Between, do any of you recommend if I just buy the new fish and put it straigh to the tank?
I don't have a quarantine tank, hence the reason I was asking for a reputable fish store that sells fish.

Just watch the fish, see its behavior make sure it isn't erratic, have them feed it to make sure its a pig at eating....

I have a QT but have been just dumping fish in there for the past 2 yrs.

AC is cool, as well as Chris.. just make sure you don't get some nasty bully fish...

as for your problem with wife saying you need fish... DUDE thats a GREAT problem to have.. now you just want her to say you need more coral too.....

You can add pretty much any reefsafe fish with your current fish without a hicup.

good luck in your choices.

Thanks, Charles.

I found out that PetSmart in Westborough (next to Walgreen) receives new saltwater fish on Tuesday and Thursday. Has anyone ever purchase from them? I noticed their saltwater fish is not entirely healthy.

I've had in the past... I just get the ones that are still in the bag from the vendor.. or just make sure the fish you get is healthy..

I got a yellow tang from a petco, I guess its the samething like a petsmart. That was back than, the yellow tang toughed it out and made it out of a terrible ich masscare. Hmm thats about it, I read in one post some guy bought a porcupine puff from a petco and it spread ich to everyone of its fish and killed them all. they arent very knowledgable about fish. I explain to the manger about seeing red goldish spots he said its level 3 ich its bleeding ich you cant help it. Lol its velvet... Not too smart
