I just picked up a couple of these. Are they dark Perc or could this be Onyx? Sorry for the bad picture, it's off my phone.

Looks like a percula, but then again I'm not aware of any species difference from "onyx" and percula fish, I thought it was simply an aggressive breeding regimen that was done to get a desirable trait (all black). But then again I'm not even close to an expert.

I'll wait for Robin or someone to chime in if it were you :)

Nice specimens ... I'd personally consider those as having onyx coloration since the black fully extends between both sets of bars (and even a bit onto the tail). Some with more restrictive perspectives may say that they are not onyx since the dorsal is not black, but I would think most clown folks would consider them onyx ... good find!

I think Onyx are the darker variant of a Perc but I'm no expert either. I really wanted an Onyx and the 2 Onyx breeder that I know of, Rod and Robin, doesn't have any for a while so I figure this was the closest thing to theirs. It's the first time I seen a True Perc this dark. It's actually darker than the picture but I think they are not happy being in the bag since they been in there for over 4 hours now. I got them in a cooler so hope they make it for another hour when I go home.

it is a true perc. (see rod's explaination of onxy)

from my understanding Onxy first dorsol fin is blk. so it doesn't qualify as onxy. but you never know later it might turn black, but this perc do carry a really high blk coloration so it is still a very nice fish.

I got onxy from rod and they were well worth it. Lapspan has mine. Hope it is doing well.

Here is the third one. I think he's probably a True Perc but I was going to use him if the first 2 don't pair since they are of similar size.

Thanks Klam for the input. I wouldn't be surprise if they weren't but I figure when Robin get his new cluth I could get one and hope to pair them with one of these guys. Especially, if the 2 darker ones won't pair.
