Like many of us, I surf RC and other sites throughout the day. Lately I have noticed a lot of "Blah" on RC. Should I buy this tank, how to mix water, where to shop; you get my drift.
Lets see some MARS FTS (Full Tank Shots) of local tanks. I hope some of the BAR members join in as well because there are some really nice tanks in the Bay.

I'll start with my humble 90.

I though that was the point of RC people with more experience helping those with less. And to share different ways of doing things.Shareing pics and frags or selling extra equipment also.

This is my newly set-up 60g. It's been running for just over a month. It will remain mixed with very little SPS.

This 60g is set-up to be very simple with very few equiptment so I don't have to worry about things going wrong when I'm away for several days. Well, that's what I'm hoping for anyway.

I'm married to someone who likes to go on vacation several times a year so I need something very simple with very little fuss.

I got that Perc from a guy in south San Francisco. He said it's an ORA Picasso Perc. I never knew there was such a thing until then.

Picasso Percs are really nice and not cheap. Great addition.

One day I will learn howto take a FTS that looks more true to what color my tank is. I can not dial the WB in with the lighting combination that I have. Thank you for the kind words though.

Thanks! I just need the right slip fitting to mount to my barbed hose fitting then I can finally get the new tank up and running, ya it's still not up :( But when it is, the pictures will be alot clearer and I can't wait to show you all, and you will also get a personal invitation Mark :)

First off, I dig these powerheads! But paired with my returns this is the best placement I could do with my current placement of livestock and rockwork. It creates a nice current in the front and back of the tank, and the alternating returns dice up the flow down the middle so everything gets a decent current.

I'm not a member of MARS or BAR, kinda caught in the middle in Fairfield, but always in here hanging out with you all. :) Here's my tank; most if not all frags came from fellow MARS and BAR members and people around the area from RC or LFS like Atlantis Aquarium. I recently got tired of the rock wall look so I redecorated a bit. Sorry for all the white frag rocks, I recently picked all those pieces from Dale (ned2getfish), thanks Dale! Pics taken under 2-250w DE 10k BLV's, enjoy!

sweet nuuze, but I think you're disgracing the tank with that frag rack. not that it's not well made, but it destroys the curves of the tank =(

maybe black eggcrate? or perhaps it's just temporary. but beautiful new rockwork though! I like it better than the wall!!

Nuuze
07/20/2007, 12:41 AM
You're not the first person that said that about the rack Kinetic. Yes, it's temporary for frags. It's there only because them bigger snails are freakin' clumsy and kill my frags before I can mount them.

I'm really liking the three mound look! The fish seem to love swimming all around in between now rather than just the top half of the tank. Maybe once I remove the rack for good I may repoint my Tunze's. One on the front right blowing left and the other on the back left blowing right. What you all think? Kinda like a circular motion...

Kinetic
07/20/2007, 12:47 AM
ah ok I thought so =) I know you wouldn't leave it in there like that ;)

Three mounds is real nice. Gives a lot of character to the tank, makes it seem longer with three peaks.

Circular might be a bit too laminar. I'd point them both to the middle of the tank and bounce them off the surface. It'll create some massive turbulence especially since they hit each other, then hit the surface as well. Plus awesome surface agitation =) That's just me tho =P

In my 40g frag tank I have four seio 620's all pointing to the top middle of my tank, from all four corners. The result is ridiculously turbulent for a pretty wide area.

Hey dont sweat it. I can still remember when I called my boneyard of a tank a reef, and I was pretty stoked with what I had too, two different shrooms and a small patch of button polyps. Talk about humble pie :D
Ever consider a blue or black backing? Amazing how a simple thing like that can really make your tank really stand out and the corals just pop. Did the blue for a couple years. Cant wait to see it in black:cool:

Nuuze- Thank you for posting here. I work with a guy that wants an elos system because of your build thread. Sweet tank. How are the new lights and ballasts working for you.

SaltKelly- Like Justin said, It is nice to see your tank. Our tanks have taken a lot of work and they will take even more owrk in the future. The purpose of this thread is NOT TOTM, but it is a thread of more local tanks, that way people can see what they like and get idea to advance their own systems.

When we are all debateing the "blah", and not sharing our successes and failures, it make this forum more of a soap opera and less of a resource. A person can learn a lot from a book written by an expert, but to have visual evidence, that is impressive in my book.

Thanks Mark! BTW, I love your tank!! Very nice :D

I thought about painting the back, but really like the open look. I don't have any corals to really pop, so for now I'm gonna keep it open. I actually had a black background for years, but just decided to take it off a few months ago.

As for triggers, I bought a sargassum from CRS about 3 months ago, but unfortunately it was a bad choice and I lost that fish the next night. Ouch.... it wasn't cheap and I wasn't too happy to say the least. Since then I haven't bought any livestock.

But my tank is filled with cleaner shrimp and hermits so I tried to stay away from stocking triggers due to their "hungry" personalities.

http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m199/jimdogg187/3_Cleaners.jpg

My next additions will be a some nice anthias. Probably 3.

Hi Marko9,

Elos is awesome! I really like the system so far, pretty well thought out. If I could do it again I probably would of went a little bigger. :) What system is your buddy planning?

I have no problems with my lights to date. One of the reason's probably is that I don't have the magnetic ballast version but the ACLS (dimmable) version so its a little different from the units you are seeing with problems.

jimdogg187
07/20/2007, 12:11 PM
Nuuze, your tank is awesome!! I love the elos/rimless look. High quality stuff.

Yeah, from what I come to understand is that you have to get the ACLS from Sfiligoi. Great lights!!!!

Thank you!!! Though its no i-phone, I have the Sony Ericson W810i which is WAY more phone than I need....walkman, fm radio, video, 2 Megapixel camera.......the best thing is comes with a program and a handy dandy USB plug in to drag and drop the pics. Thats what I like the best. Couple of guys at school had it and said it was the best phone that they had ever had, and I agree.....but I ain't too gagety.
