I have a 20" Current Satellite 40W PC fixture sitting here burning a hole in my pocket, I need to use it for something. So, I got an idea today. Why not start a nano for propagation of softies such as Zoanthids, Mushrooms, and Ricordea.

Here is my idea. 10G tank, 40W 50/50 PC light, Agua Clear 50 filter, Maxi-Jet 600, simple wave timer, sand bed, & 15 lbs of live rock. I think I can do manual top offs a couple of times a week and do maybe 20% water changes weekly. Once cycled add some invertebrates and the soft corals mentioned above. Most likely no fish. I know it might not be the text book example of perfection, but could I propagate soft corals in such an environment? If not, what is it lacking?

Need more flow and more light IMO. Who knows though under proper balance it could sustain coral but growth will prob be slow.

I was hoping the 40W of PC would be sufficient for softies. If not, the idea is dead in the water. The hole idea was to reuse this light fixture I already had.

What about using 10,000 K instead of 50/50 that could give you enough light to grow some softies, xenia, some zoas, leathers.

Current only lists 3 bulb combinations available for this fixture. Would none of these work?

Sunpaq Dual Actinic 420/460nm
Sunpaq Dual Daylight 6700/10000K
Sunpaq Daylight 10000K/460nm

Sunpaq Daylight 10000K/460nm Would do the trick but as for topping off that would be a daily thing. Mine looses an inch or more of water out of the tank a day.

Remember, you don't have to use current bulbs just find one that has square pin and is the same wattage, look around there out there but the 6700/10,000 K Dual Daylight will give you good light for better growth IMO.
