That is Caulerpa and from the looks of it, it is starting to go "sexual". The leaves turn white and start to disentigrate and release spores into the water causing problems in your tank.........

Take a look at this article for some suggestions of what to do:

Nope. That's Halimeda sp. and it being white like that in areas is perfectly normal as long as it's not the whole thing.

I thought that Caulerpa was more fern like of a leaf? only the parts that get stirred up by my algae blenny that thinks its a perch are white. it has been growing pretty quickly and now I want to sell off trade some if I can... now that there are 2 different opinions anyone else want to chime in on the opinion...

I third Halimeda now that I see pictures of both.......my LFS actually called this Caulerpa so I didn't think to look closer. Now that I look closer, I don't think I have ever seen Caulerpa "in the flesh"

My bad!

Halimeda. And a lot of it at that! I have some growing out of no where. I never added it to the tank and 6 months after I set up the tank it started sprouting.

Make sure you keep your alaklinty and clacium levels up or it can die rather quickly.

to be completly honest I would like to get rid of a majority of it my trading it as I do not see why I need so much of it? What is the best way to prune it just cut it down or break it ast the base?
