View Full Version : July Meeting

The July meeting will be at my house on the Sunday, the15th , at 4:00 pm. We will be doing a demo on fragging zoanthids. The club will be purchasing a colony of approximately 100 polyps so that every paid member should be able to go home with a frag of 3-4 polyps. I am unsure of what type zoanthids we will be fragging, but I will provide details on the colony as soon as I know them. If anyone has a specific request for zoa type (that is reasonable in price, PM me and I will see what I can do).

We will be supplying tacos to eat, but we will need other people to bring things like chips, drinks, or whatever else you would like. My address is 4916 Alexis Dr., Cane Ridge, TN, 37013. Cane Ridge is just to the west of Antioch and is a 15 min trip from downtown Nashville and a 15-20 min trip from Brentwood/Franklin. I can supply directions for those who PM me and tell me where your coming from. However, the easiest way to get directions is probably to just use maquest or yahoo maps. Please post here if you think you will be coming so that we can have an idea as to how much food to prepare.

As for the zoas to be fragged......either Armageddon's or Armor of God would be nice. :bum:

I'll see what I can do about those zoas. I think the restraining factor on zoa selection is price and availability. We will definitely get something with alot of color though and something that I think isn't already floating around Nashville much.

Just kidding. Anything will be nice.....especially if it's free.

c_stowers,
Are you in the Oak Highlands subdivision?

c_stowers
06/28/2007, 12:22 PM
Yep. I just moved there a few months ago. My tanks are still in turmoil from the move so you guys aren't going to get to see a real nice tank. But at least everyone can see the new 120 I am in the process of setting up.

Small world! I'm in the same subdivision. If I am in town that day I'll be sure and make it to the meeting. I should know my schedule by next week. If I'm able to come I'll pitch in on the drinks.

Ebay and the Critter both get in some nice things in the zoa that don't go for as much as online sometimes. I've had better luck with size and rarity from Sean (the nice ones from the Critter are usually the 'Rainbow Rock', so there might only be 10 polyps of one strain-and may only be one really nice strain among the five or six on the rock). Sean has gotten in what were called Green somethings. I wish I could remember more. Here is a pic of the last colony I bought from him. Not quite 100 polyps, but a nice sized colony of Chameleon People Eaters. Now, for some reason, they always decline over time, but I have a theory that it may be related to the rock the aquaculturist/mariculturist uses. It is man made and modeled after a Fungia sp., I think. The colony didn't really go for that much, if I remember correctly. I might have paid $60-70. I knew what I was getting, so I had no qualms:).

Under 175W 15K XM's, so there is a bit of blue, but they were nice, regardless of lighting...

Yeah those are nice. We are going through Sean on this purchase. Not because they have nicer zoas than A/C, but because we are trying to spread club spending as equally as possible between the LFS's. Sean has been very helpful in finding us a nice colony to frag. As a matter of fact, he was suppose to get a couple of rocks in for us to choose from yesterday. I haven't had a chance to go by there, so if anyone sees a rock there they particularly like, let me know. If we don't see anything there we like, he said he would try and get some more in for us.

Awesome! I'm really looking forward to seeing the zoanthid fragging demo.

I should be able to make it.

I'm coming, Chris. Thanks for hosting and organizing.

I was glad to see the date because I'm getting scuba recertified, along with my kids, on the weekends before and after the meeting! I was certified 35 years ago, but I've only been snorkeling since.

No problem on hosting on short notice. I've been wanting to host a meeting for a while. I just hope that I can get my new 120 up before the meeting. It looks like if I stay on schedule that I will have it up 2-3 days before the meeting. It should be a good meeting. We are going to have some nice zoas to frag. Also, if any newbies are coming and are looking for easy starter corals, I've got some button polyps, yellow polyps, and Kenya trees that I can give away for free.

Hey!
Been out of the loop for awhile--can't wait to attend another meeting! If possible, would love to have some of those red-skirted, blue-eyed zoas!
Thanks!
See ya soon!

Looks like we are going to have a good turn out! I went by and looked at zoas at ebay yesterday and nothing looked great. They did have a colony of about 100 tropical plush (?) zoas. They had pinkish centers, blue ring, and green skirts I think. They were nice looking but I know alot of us have green skirted zoas. So Sean is going to get us in some more next week. Hopefully something awesome will come in.

As for food, we will be needing people to bring drinks, chips (or any other side), and deserts. So post here what you can bring so that everyone can see what has been taken care of.

I have stumbled on this club area, and live in Murfreesboro, tn, also I am very new to SW fish. Have had my tank only a few weeks. I would very much like to attend the meeting and join the club if that would be alright.

Do I just bring the membership application and show up at the meeting? Thanks very much

Norman

Welcome to the club forum, Norman. You are welcome to come to the meeting, and yes you can just bring a printout of the membership form with you to the meeting. The dues for 1/2 year are $10 through December and you'll get a 10% discount at the local fish shops among other things :)

Again, welcome. Hope to see you at the meeting.

Norman, welcome. I'm glad you're new to SW because all the expertise around me is very confusing sometimes. I want to listen in on any questions you come with! I look forward to meeting you. I'm the guy who can't remember anybody's name.

Chris, I'll pick up some name tag stickers, if you don't already have some, and I'll think of something edible, too.

I am wanting to join MTRC as well. From what I understand the Treasurer ( Wayne ? ) lives in M'boro. Can I just take my dues directly to him? Any help would be appreciated. I was trying to make it to last months meeting at AC, but had to work late. Looking forward to meeting you all.

I would just PM waynesworld and see when you could meet up. You could also give the dues to me or crumbletop and we will get them to Wayne.

An important note on parking at my house: There is not alot of parking in my driveway or right around my house. But at the end of my street there is an area marked on the side of the road as "overflow parking". For those that don't mind walking up 5 houses, I recommend parking there. It is less than a 75 yard walk.

Another option would be to use a credit card and pay through paypal (http://www.mtrc.org/mainpages/membership.html).
