Broken glass on a hqi fixture will lowes glass work?

I have a giesemann nova II pendent and the glass broke can i replace it with some glass from lowes or is the glass special?

its special glass it has a uv shield you cant use regular glass.

Regular float glass will block the UV just the same. I've had problems though with non-tempered glass cracking in MH fixtures though, so you might want to order replacement glass for you fixture anyway.

you want to use tempered glass. Regular non tempered glass doesnt work well because it can not take the heat.
I supposed you could try non tempered, it may or may not crack.
Any type of glass will shield the UV though.

Marine Depot stocks the fixture.

They should be able to hook you up with a replacement or point you in the right direction.

Do NOT use regular glass. it will heat up and explode glass into your tank. Don't ask me how I know. I'm still seeing glass in my sand.

The glass in my reflector looks to be just regular tempered glass. It's fairly thick though, relatively speaking. Probably 3/16". I dont know if Lowes or HD deals with tempered but any local glass shop should be able to supply you with a replacement piece of tempered glass. I would go with the same thickness.
