Whenever I buy a new coral attached to a piece of rock, my blue star fish practically molests it for about a week! I assume that it's feeding on something not normally available in my tank, but I have no idea what. We've kept the star fish for almost 2 years now, and I try to feed it every few weeks by putting it in a separate container with a ton of mysis.

Any ideas?

BACTERIA?

Yeah, bacteria is my guess also. I've never read or heard anything about this though. I hope the star fish is not sucking important bacteria out of the live rock.

Its probably cleaning out all the microbes on the LR.

My Burgundy Linckia does the same thing for me as well.

Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

I dunno.. I've had mine for almost a year now with no problems whatsoever including it growing two legs back completely that it was missing when I bought it.
