Someone gave me an anenome and last night it stayed at the bottom of the tank, it looked fine, and this morning when I turned the lights on it started floating all over the tank. (with the flow of the water). What is going on, is it dead? If not what can you feed it, and how often.

it will float around until it lands and will move until it finds a place it likes. just give it time and cover all power head intakes.

What kind of 'nem? You can help it be gently holding against a rock until it attaches. It usually occurs in about 15 seconds.

Sometimes if a anemone doesn't like it's habitat it will let lose and float for a better location. How are you're water parameters?

12G nano is not much of a home for any Anemone other than maybe a Condi.... (also going to have issues with keeping fish in the same tank)

If it is floating it has air bubbles trapped inside of it from microbubbles. It should be isolated from exposure to any bubbles. It will then expel the air bubbles.

i had a 8 to 9 inch long tentacle anenome in a twelve for 5 to 6 years...it died because the power went out at my house when i was away on vacation

what kind is it...i would cut down the flow in the tank

the floating Anemone is doing that because it is looking for a good place to anchor (called "bowling"). Depending on the actual species, it could need sand, a deep rock crevice or just a place out of direct lighting.
Without a more exact ID, it is pretty hard to know what it is looking for.

I would guess this tank has around 36W of PC lighting? If this is the case, the animal is going to be in need of additional feedings, more water changes (to accommodate the additional waste) and the light should be replaced at least every 9 months. This just really is not an ideal situation for most Anemone.

it all depends on your definition of "good husbandry"
