Great picture! What kind of camera did you use to get that macro shot?

Thanks. It's a Fuji FinePix S700. It's a 7.1 mp digicam, but has 10x optical zoom, macro, super macro, and full manual control. Runs about $250. I'm pretty happy with it.

Nice piece :) Is there a story with it?

Thanks for the camera information. I have an older Fuji Finepix S model - 10X optical zoom & macro mode, but only 2 mp. Now i know why my macro shots don't look as nice as some of the ones I see. I see some mobile phone pics that look better than some of my macro shots! I'll have to look into the S700 - the price sounds reasonable too.

It just came out in March, so it's pretty much the best one they have in that style and price range. I'm still learning to use it, but so far I'm pretty happy. A nice accessory to have for macros is a tri-pod. That pic used a shutter speed of 1/10 second, which doesn't seem that long, but is really an eternity if you're trying to hold the camera steady enough to get a sharp macro photo. Also, use the timer so you don't shake the camera pressing the button.

Check out this site for lessons on general and reef photography...

FYI, jpeg images like those posted on the web have data attached to them that give the camera, focal length, aperture settings, shutter speeds, etc. called EXIF data. Do a google search for "EXIF plug in" for your browser, download and install the plug in, and you'll be able to right click on any picture and choose properties to see the info.

Here's what you would see for my photo...
Camera Make: FUJIFILM
Camera Model: FinePix S5700 S700
Image Date: 2007:05:06 20:30:21
Flash Used: No
Focal Length: 13.4mm (35mm equivalent: 85mm)
CCD Width: 5.71mm
Exposure Time: 0.100 s (1/10)
Aperture: f/3.5
ISO equiv: 100
Exposure Bias: -0.33
White Balance: Manual
Metering Mode: Matrix
Exposure: program (Auto)

P.S. Apologies to Dave for hijacking with all this photography talk. :mixed:

Hey - just to go off topic one more time (sorry Dave) - that EXIF plugin is great! Now I can see what folks are using for the camera & settings, Thanks for the link too!
