where would be the best place to find gasket material for flanges on a diy mrc type skimmer

what kind of material would be best. I cant seem to find anything locally and was wondering. I was thinking of just using silicone if I cant find anything and cutting it off if I have to. But I am sure there is something better..
any help appectiated

Darned if I havent seen this question answered before. I believe what you are looking for is a uniseal. Try searching for it on google or something..... Check a company that sells plumbing parts called Savco plumbing. Heres a link I found, check it out.

http://www.savko.com/PartList.asp?pgid=2&ptid=30

Hope that helps

head to an auto parts place and pick up either cork or butyl rubber gasketing material. it comes in sheets to cut to fit.

Check the plumbing aisle at Lowe's.
They sell this (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=31448-143-PP25547&lpage=none) in 1/16" thickness also.

the auto stuff is about an eigth of an inch thick, how thick was the lowes stuff? I know they sell cork for messages to be pinned to also and that would likely be to thick.

I thought the same thing. I bought some gasket material from Aquatic Eco but I didnt work. I guess the nylon nut and bolt couldnt put enough tork of the gasket. I ended up useing a o-ring from my pool filter. Worked great

If it's a machined, true surface, the folder material will work. I was a helicopter mechanic in a previous life, and there has been quite a few times we couldn't get gaskets for rebuilding hydraulic pumps, and generators. Not a drop leaked, and flew safely until it was time to run the bird through a phase inspection (minor overhaul). At which time we had the time to wait for supply. It may sound crazy, but when it's fix it or sleep in the sand, the folder in you flight bag works.

Now for some here and now. Everyone is right, go to NAPA, and buy a roll of gasket material. Trace out the shape and cut with a blade. That is you best bet. If it's saturday night at 23:59 and a seal on your pump goes, grab a folder.

Sorry to come off as a smarta**, that's not what I ment to do. Go with the safer route, but like I said, if you need it NOW, the folder will work.

Here is the place i got my gasket material from http://www.mcmaster.com/
The stuff i got was food safe so i figured it shouldn't be a prob in the tank.
A 12"x12"x 1/8" cost me 27.00 It works great

Shawn Jones,
I notice your Verizon Fiber Optics Field Tech moniker.
Are you an old MCI re-tread, by chance?
