Cycling question

Hello. My name is Will and I'm from Israel. I'm a total beginner to this hobby and new to this forum.

I'd like to set up a little salt water tank. Could you please give me some general directions on how to do it right? The Mediterranean sea is 10 minutes away so I can get all of the water and rocks from there.

Actually I just started reading Travis' tutorial and I kind of got it wrong. I finished where he had the tank already drilled with the pipes screwed to it and the black thingy pasted. What do I do with it now? I mean, how do I use it to filter the water?
