ph help

ok my ph at the beginng of the day is 8.43 or so by the time the lights go off my ph is at 8.67. i dont believe this is a good thing. how do i fix my ph issue. any help would be great. thanks clay

Are you using a test kit or a probe?

Do you have a calcium reactor? or are you doing kalkwasser additions?
You might know this already but,
When your lights are on the algae and corals are using the light for photosythesis and a end product of this process is oxygen which increases your pH. when the lights are off carbon dioxide is released by the process respiration causing your pH to drop. If you have a refugium you can run a reverse photo-period to stabilize your pH. (lights are on the refugium when the tank lights are off). I just run my refugium light 24/7. There are many reasons why I do this but one is for pH stability.
So a 0.2-0.3 increase in your pH is normal.

i use a phobe which is ran by my RK2. i do not have a calcium reactor. i currently do not use kalkwasser but i have put thought into it. i run my fuge lights oppsite of my tank lights. i do understand how ph works. but is 8.67 bad?

That is about your upper limit. If your tank is 8.67 and it drops to 7.8 every night that could be signs of trouble. but I would measure the pH twice a day at the same time for at least three days to get a real idea of your tanks fluxuation. But 8.67 is not going to kill anything.
Good news is alot of nusance algae has a hard time growing wilth a pH at that level.

Not trying to hijack your thread but, my PH goes from 8.1 down to 7.6 at night. I run a reverse photoperiod on my fuge. I know it's not a good swing but I can't figure out what is causing it. any thoughts anybody?
