sand for refuge???

Can I nix home depot sand with live sand for my refuge? Will it still serve the same purpose? And how deep of a sand bed is good?

You really don't need live sand: sand goes live by the end of the cycle---life in it is shallow and fragile, but it's alive. I use a 3-4" sandbed in my refugium. No shallower than that, I'd say.
