how does that work without overflowing?

You must not be using the return pipe that high.....right?

Obviously not.... It just arrived today, so we slammed it all together and it's still sitting where we left it.

Tomorrow I'll concentrate on rinsing it w/ diluted Muriatic Acid to wash away the oils and season it.

You really have a nice tank and a GREAT skimmer. That skimmer holds as much water as my current tank.

Thanks...

My tank is run with a heavily modded Coralife CSS-220, so believe it or not, this new one will actually be running a 50g breeder prop tank until we build our huge plywood coral display tank that will be the centerpiece of our store.

A little OT, but what mods did you use for the CSS?
I need to get mine working a little better.

tgreene

Many of the mods I either developed or helped to develop a couple of years ago... Look em up! ;)

So, just the usual fishline/mesh, gate valve...?

tgreene

Nope, far more comprehensive actually.

Care to help a guy out?
It's not all that easy to "Look 'em up" on this site...
Thanks-

edit: just did a search with your username, but of the 15 threads that came up, none related to the CSS. Are your mods listed on another site?
Thanks

tgreene

They are all listed here on RC...

FWIW: There are numerous 20-40 page threads about the CSS mods, and all of the large ones are linked to each other.

Thanks- I've read through those monster threads before. Not really much for the CSS other than the fishline/gate valve mods. I thought you might have had something different/new to try.

Anyway, keep us posted on the new Octo. We'd love to see pics of it in action.

The CSS monster threads are dedicated strictly to the CSS skimmers...

Ummmmm, I just upgraded to the BIGGER BADDER MEGA-SIZED quad skimmer... :D

While anxiously awaiting the new FDNW-400 Quad skimmer to arrive (hopefully Friday), I decided to go ahead and drill out the TDNW-300 venturi's from 7/64 to 9/64th's, and the amount extra of suction is insane -- I really wish I had an air-flow meter.

With a freshwater only test, the bubbles were nowhere near as fine or obvious as they were with the smaller venturi ports, which scared the hell out of me, so I decided to add a couple of cups of salt directly to the skimmer to test it, and OMG!!!

I haven't done the mesh-mod yet, and I'm not even sure I'll need to, but I'm certainly not going to rule it out either. :D

That would be really cool right next to the stand. As a showpiece. Love to see pic of it running.

I don't think it will fit under that stand. ;)

Where is the skimmer in these pictures? All I see is what appears to be a rocket propelled bar stool. :)
