I am starting to build a 92 gallon reef tank. So far i have the stand mostly done and am going to start on the canopy as soon as i have some better dimensions of the top trim height and width. I have the outside dimensions of the tank traced out on cardboard and thats it so i am on hold with the canopy. I have 120 pounds of live rock curing in a stock tank with a Bermuda Aquatics BPS-3C. The sump, skimmer and what not will be in the basement, and the tank will be in the upstairs family room.

Nice job, one thing you will have to watch out for if you are going to have halides in your canopy is shrinking between the boards from the heat. Iv'e built canopies and stands for a 54, 92, and 155 it's quite different than the standard box build, but your doing some fine work.

thanks for the lookout. That is something i was wondering about. I am planinning on having overlaped boards on the top with spacing between them for heat escape. the front will have doors like the base and solid sides as they are not seen. my initial lighting will be 4 65watt pc's and 2 96 pc's. I know i am not going to be happy with that though so a singe mh in the center with pc's around that is going to be the plan after break in. I am thinking a 250 watt mh. The tank comes in this saturday so i will be able to continue to build the canopy. I have the radius's cut but dont know how tall to make them to cover the trim. also i dont know how much of a lip there is for the canopy to rest on. so i am in a holding pattern

Definately buy a 400 watt MH. you won't regret it I had a 250 on my 54 and it was just bearly enough, the overlaped boards might work but could make the canopy look top heavy. keep us up on your progress!
