My question is this:

My LR has started to turn brown. It's not slimy or hairy. My tank has been running for about 1 month. Is it part of the cycling process? is there something that I should do to stop it? I am leaving my light on for about 9 hrs at a time right now, could that be fueling the brown stuff?
My parameters are

PH 8.3
Nitrites: .5
Nitrates: 0
Ammonia: .50
Temp: 78 - 80 F.

Cleaning Crew of
6 Mexican turbo snails
5 Hermit crabs

Go to WWW.PZPLACE.COM to see my progress. You can see current pictures on the site.

Diatoms. Totally normal part of cycling. It will subside and you probably will get a hair algae bloom as well. Again, totally normal. They both will go away on their own. Continue to use RO/DI if you aren't already. Silicate feeds diatoms, the lights won't make a difference. ;)
