View Full Version : Ball Valve on sump

I had a similar question to an earlier thread.

I am not sure where to put my last ball valve. I have a 1" pipe running from return to a T. At the T I have a pipe coming off it to return water to the refugium in the sump with a ball valve there. Continuing up the 1" pipe I have a Y that has (2) 3/4" pipes running to two separate sea swirls.

I am trying to put a 1" true Union Ball Valve in somewhere that will have the greatest benefit when cleaning pump and other maintenance.

Pump -> 1" pipe -> T -> 1" pipe -> Y -> two 3/4" pipes.

Any help is appreciated.

I am with you on this, I also have the same question...

I put it in the 1" pipe to throttle down the pump as needed.

An option was to put another between pump and sump so that the pump could be undone for cleaning. However, a cap to the bulkhead is another option.

I'd personally put the second ball valve just before the Y. It would also allow you to stop the back-siphon of water to the sump if you're doing pump maintenance. It would also let you recirc to shut off water to the tank while still recircing the refugium if you ever need to (not sure why you'd need to though).
