I have a mandarin and a GBTA. They are doing just fine :) You may want to wait a while to add your mandarin. They require a large pod population.

ya i plan on waiting atleast a year. I just heard anemones will sting and eat a mandarin.. will the mandarin go near it? I really want a mandarin and i want it to stay alive for as long as i can but if an anemone will likely sting it ill just wait on the BTA. or get one and get rid of it later.

I have seen the mandarin near the anem, but i dint think they have touched. In fact, nothing has touched the anem except my regal tang.

I've had a mandarin for 2 yrs w/ both my LTA and sebae no prob.
You could get one in about 6 mo. if pods are plenty.

The male Mandarin tends to be larger than the female and has a large pointed dorsal fin.

I have a mandarin with my rbta and also has no problem. My mandarin is so fat that she can hardly pick herself up to swim around.

I've heard many stories of carpets eating mandarins. Some people have good luck with them, larger tanks, or smart fish.
Cheers

Yeah, that spike coming off the dorsal means male.

My mandarin chills out under the BTA for periods of the day...I'm wondering if maybe the anems will go after sick mandarins, or starving mandarins going into the anem and more suceptible to being eaten. My mandarin(female) has been trained to eat frozen.
