I was thinking about some dry rock myself. Has any one bought any from:

http://www.marcorocks.com/default.asp?

The rock looks good, and cheaper than wet stuff.
I need a code or cupon code for them if you got any? :)

dry rock is dry rock. Find whatever looks good and has decent price. According to that website, it's nothing more than dry fiji rock. I've seen better pricing for dry rock. Caribsea makes a dry reef rock, I think it's called Reef Bones or something like that, I've used the less porous Reef Rock (base rock) and it worked like a charm, and it was half the cost as that stuff. Just FYI

I agree, I would look at the LFS for some cheap base rock

I've yet to see any "cheap base rock" at any LFS here. They're awfully proud of there rock. I got mine from thatpetplace.com. But I know many sites sell the stuff. And there are many more alternatives out there as well. Including DIY rock, which will look and act as any other rock if made correctly. And dirt cheap to make. I would also not suggest getting just base rock. It's more for aquascaping purposes than biological filtering. You'll want porous rock for filtering.

Not to steal your thread, but my LFS sells 50 lb boxes of dry rock for $50... but it is very white, and leaves a trace of white powder on your hands after touching it? Do you know if this means the rock has been bleached? Bunker

That's how the Caribsea stuff is, and it's 50lbs for about $50. May be the same stuff. And the powder you get from touching them is just from the rocks smacking each other and powdering. It's nothing more than aragnite dust. Rinse before use if ya don't want a cloudy tank.

The white dust is the calcium. Happens anytime you rub 2 calcium base rocks together

calcium, aragonite, same thing.

Should it be rinsed in saltwater or will tap water be ok?

Saltwater or Ro/Di water. I wouldnt' use tap for anything. well, I guess you could rinse the dust off with tap and then re-rinse in RO water or dirty tank water during a water change. You just don't want the left over tapwater getting into your tank.

Would putting dried base rock like Marcorock end up kicking off a cycle in either an established or new tank?
