i picked up the hob octopus 110 over the weekend. all i can say is this skimmer rocks! it looks like a modified cpr backpack, but it's built like a brick. i had an issue with the pump, but replaced that today with another one of the same (resun king 225f needlewheel). it's quiet and pulls foam like nobody's business. i'm running it slightly on the wetter side right now on my new 90 that's curing.

thumbs up!

I'm not aware that Octopus makes an HOB version of the 110 model. Do you mean the HB-100 or HB-100F?

Sweet! They seem very well priced versus the performance you get from them. There is a really large thread somewhere on RC about Reef Octopus skimmers (150+ pages)

sorry - it's the hb-100. there's 2 other models that i obviously didn't choose from, but this thing is great.

i don't think that it's a hang-on version of the sump 110. the hob pump is a smaller needlewheel.

unfortunately, the huge octopus thread is focused on the sump models.

I've been looking at the Octopus hang-on skimmers. Is your pump in the aquarium or inside the body of the skimmer?

mine's in the aquarium. i looked at the one with the pump inside the body, but it didn't look too easy to service. plus, i don't care for the overflow strainer it comes with.

here it is left overnight. i emptied out before i went to bed and woke up to this:
