Ok, I was fishing out a dead Purple Fire Fish the other day and when I went to scoop it up I saw what looked like a Bristle Worm or Eunicid worm sticking out from under a small rock that was sitting by itself on the bottom of the tank. It was an inch or more sticking out so I figure it was at least an inch and half or more in length. I grabbed the rock and looked to find what hole the worm was in.

I had just read on another thread that someone used pelligrino water to squirt into the hole and in a few minuets his eunicid worm came right out. This of course didn't work for me. It was very late so I quarantined the rock in my tank with a ziplock bag. The next night I gave it a go again. This time my wife misunderstood and poured tonic water in the bowl I asked her for so I could squirt in the hole with the worm. While that was a mistake it didn't work either. I went back to the Pelligrino water and this time I heated it up in the microwave. This worked some as the worm stuck out a little and then went back in. I tried this many many more times and heard the worm make strange sounds but to no avail. I then decided to chisel the rock where the hole was. After doing so I only found green goo and thought I cooked the worm with the hot water. I went for one more chisel just to make sure I didn't have a worm further down a hole and the rock split in two and I found what looked like a tube looking worm. Not the centipede looking worm I saw a few nights before. Here is the picture of it. Can anyone tell me what is was? Also, I washed the rock off with my RO water and put it back in. Now it has glowing red spots. What are those????

The "victim" looks like a peanut worm. Harmless poop eater.
The red on the rock looks like coraline to me.

It was far from having anything red on it before I went down this crazy path. I wish I wouldn't have missed the other worm as I did not want a bristle and especially a eunicid worm that large in the tank. I guess he might have been in the substrate instead of the rock.

i am 99% sure the worm is a Peanut Worm. but it could be a Priapulid worm, just maybe. either way they are harmless and great for the tank as detritus munchers. heres some articles:

the red stuff looks like an odd colored coralline algae.

Thanks for the links. The red is beautiful as it is very bright and practicaly glows. I was thinkg I got somthing on the rock that might be bad for it to do that when I put it back in. Like I said before, it wasn't there before I took the rock out and ziplocked it.

It did have regular purple coraline before. I just didn't want to hear something like "get it out of your tank now! It will kill everything!!!"
