maybe it's not a big deal for others, but it's my first time see one fo those in person...it's amazing...and i keep telling myself i gotta have one of those in my 120 SPS tank.

From all the reading, seems like it might nip at clams, but according to OCaquatic, theirs does not nip at clams. This is the only thing i'm worrying about if i get one of those pretty thing since i'll have an area full of clams.

just want to share my thoughts.

It is highly unlikely that it will nip at clams. These are planktonic feeders that hang out in the open water column.

That being said, I would highly recommend a tank larger than 120 gallons unless it is a small specimen and you plan to upgrade to a larger tank (i.e. ~250 - 300 gallon) in the near future. These fish get large, and fast. They need room to swim. The males max out at about 14 inches.

i'm thinking to get one like 6"<, they don't look like siwmmer, however in long term, i'll upgrade for sure..but for now, i do'nt care, just gotta have one of those :p

Ok, then go for it!

Just please do make sure you upgrade to a larger tank soon. Although they don't look like nimble/fast swimmers, they do like to pace back and forth a lot and as they are not used to confined/cramped quarters, it will appreciate the swimming room as it grows larger.

Good luck.

Are you getting a male or female?

i don't think you will be able to find one under size inches

i just ordered a pair of blue jaw triggers. would a crosshatch be compatible w/ these guys in a 180?

That's true for males, as they are extremely difficult to find under 6 inches.

However, females are fairly easy to find under 6 inches.

Yes, behaviourly/territorially speaking. However you are at the upper limit for swimming space to house these triggers in a 180.

Also, don't forget that triggers are messy eaters, and they eat A LOT.

Therefore, for a 180 to house three triggers ,which can each grow to a foot in length, you'd better make sure your means of mechanical and biological filtration are up to task.

I was very impressed when I saw the one at OC too... It was my first time seeing one in person. It almost looks like 2 or 3 pieces of different fish put together.

Yes, they are a spectacullarly beautiful fish with tons of personality. One of my all-time favorites. Here's a picture of my male which Gabe/Bebo77 now has in his tank (as well as the female).

Here's a picture of my male I just got, and the female from the now closed Makin' Waves. I have 6 or so clams in my tank and never looked at one, in fact doesn't mess with anything. A 180 would be minimum recommendation for these guys. Funny, the female is more of a pig than the male...go figure.

that one at oc aquatic looks like its about 8". he looks a little crammed in their display tank. i would not put that in a 120gallon.

crammed in their tank..i do'nt know about that...isn't it like 200 gal or something? i think it's their rock work, not many big cave which is good that all customer can see that big guy everytime they walk in the store.

i'm pretty sure CH is not a swimmer, and from what i read that req. for one of those i got 2 answers on the google search, which are 75g and 120gal.

i will work on my rock work or something ..i don't care, just gotta have one of those...some day i'll upgrade my tank again if i get sick of it .;)

you may be right about it not being crammed....it just looks so big in there.
