I was wondering if anyone has one of these and if they are good quality because i am buying one (i have a hydrometer and a digital type hydrometer) and I'm (not too trusting on the digital one) and i think its time to get a refractometer, more accuracy.

I'm not sure about the one you mention, I have a cheaper one and I'm very satisfy with. It is 10 times better than the hydrometer I got before.

I don't have experience with this model/brand, but are you really willing to spend and extra $50 for a built in light? I can think of so many other things for my tank I'd rather spend the $ on. It's really not that hard to hold the refractometer up to a light or even a window on a sunny day.

Just my $.02

I was looking at the cheaper one, i might get the cheaper one, just didn't know if it was good quality. Also do you have to calibrate it every time you use it?

I calibrate it every 3 months, but I never see any difference on the calibration.

I have a Sybon refractometer that I purchased from Premium Aquatics a year and a half ago. I've only calibrated it twice in that time span. And I didn't have to adjust it either time.

So no, you don't have to calibrate every time you use it. Maybe only a couple of times a year, at most, to make sure your readings are still accurate.

You only have to re-calibrate it if the reading is not 1.00 using pure water.
