i can't help it! i LOVE to watch my skimmer. more specifically, i LOVE watching the foam rise and fall, rise and fall, and spill over into the collection cup. i probably spend as much time looking at the skimmate as i do the tank!! and it's not because i made this skimmer...

i also just set up a 20 with a bak pak - i even love to watch the bak pak! it just amazes me that the tank water can look so clean , and then the skimmate is brown?!!

anyone else have this affliction?

btw, i used to even watch my Berlin!!!

I also have an strong interest in skimmers. I might sit down and watch it for 5 minutes while i adjust the airflow. I also have a Berlin, and i'm going to get a MyReef soon, and i'll probably be watching that a little more at first, but yeah, wow. I can't imagine watching it as much as i watch the tank.

I've maybe watched mine a total of 5 minutes in the last year. I find it quite boring. I can't imagine what you'd do if you put too much soap in the washing machine.....you'd be set for life!

Think of how much money you could save if you just skipped the tank, sand, rock, and livestock, and just had a "Show Skimmer" set up to watch.

You're a sick man nofilter, i think you need to seek some help:D j/k
I use to do that when I first got a skimmer. I guess i'm a recovering addict. I think it's kinda natural, gotta make sure its pulling something and the skimmer are adjusted to it's proper levels. I think as I got new pieces of corals, that directed my attention elsewhere. I hope you can snap out of this addiction, otherwise we'll have to do an intervention:hammer:

good luck!

Now, that is absolutely hilarious. Instead of being out $4000 right now I would only be down $225!!!

I have to admit, I have a similar affection for my skimmer, My wife says it gets a little crowded with the three of us in bed..... sheesh, woman.... lol

Nolfiter- I enjoy my skimmer too. Not to the degree you are at.
Are you sure your not drinking some of that gunk? :) Maybe the skimmate fumes are getting to you. :p Kidding!

I am slightly obsessed with my new calcium reactor. I have had people tell me I watch the drip-drip-drip like a vampire watching blood. Still it might take 5 minutes out of my day at the very least.

Finally someone fesses up to the love of his/her skimmer!

Whoa! I think you and your skimmer need to slow down a little, your tank might be getting jeaous. I think you need to let your tank down carefully. :) :)

I watch my skimmer too, but not as much as you do.

It's like a wise friend said...

You can love your skimmer, but you can't LOVE your skimmer

pomacanthus - i switched from my berlin to a DIY beckett similar to a Myreef MR-2. forget looking at that "triple-bypass" the 6in riser tube has LOTS of bubbles!

jane doe - it might be the skimmate fumes, because my waste collector is right between me and the skimmer!! when i open the cabinet doors, wheeewww! it smells!

hidden dragonet - i wanted to make the skimmer tall, and put it outside of the stand, so it would be like one of those pretty bubble walls.... idea was rejected by mrs. nofilter.

JD52 - sheesh, women!

i think it's perfectly normal. As you accumulate more toys, your interest may change.

yep, same here. I almost put my skimmer on the outside next to my tank so I could see it. I clean it once a month so I can see the foam. If it was out in the open I would probably clean it weekly. :D

nofilter, stop humping the giant "skimmer." Why don't you and the giant "skimmer" get a frickin' room?

nofilter,
Here is how I have one of my tanks set up. I have two PM hot 1s and I installed them in the front of the tank (hang ons). This way I can watch the skimming. What do you think?

jim, you got me. i was searching and searching and searching. all i see is page after page after page of provocatively posed yonis in green, blue, gold, ultra. large overhanging mantles, nice siphons, and beautiful displays, but i didn't see the skimmers. very nice distraction, but i am craving the bubbles. bubbles, man, bubbles.

i guess i'll have to go over to the super reef devil thread and drool over lunchbucket's pics!

I donĀ“t pay attention to mine, I just check if it is working properly and not more.
