I am in the process of setting up a refugium and was wondering how some of you set up your filters and pumps. Is it better to have a seperate sump/container for that? I have 2 CPR Bak-pak's that I will have in there. and a Mag 9.5.The refugium is 24X12X14. How is the best way to do this? Is it better to have more fuge area, and how should I set it up. I will have live sand and live rocks in the fuge also. Oh yeah and by the way cheap is good. Thanks in advance.

I brought my 40gal sump and 15 gal fuge to a glass place to drill 2 1/2" holes in them and attached them together with a single bulkhead. Pump to UV to fuge, back to sump through a 90 elbow as an overflow

The baffles are siliconed onto the glass. The water dumpes in the left then goes threw the baffles then is pumped up on the right. Im thinking the next time i do a water change syphoning the sand out.

Is it better to use PVC piping? I was planning on using 1" clear vinyl tubing. Will that be ok?

I dont think it really matters what kind tubing you use. PVC is cheap and you can get it anywhere. Vinyl is easy to work with .

I think it will be fine. You may want to cover it with something like tape or pipe insulation to stop algea from growing inside of the tubing.

Thanks skamin thats a good idea. mDoes anyone use "socks" on the inlet lubes when they go in the sump?

The refugium i bought does not have any baffles. How big of an air bubble issue am i gonna have?

may b an issue'till your cheato grows - but imo u def need baffles. Another option is micron socks. I have both- I just cant tolerate bubbles is one of my biggest petpeeves when i do a setup.

Here's mine. The fuge is the compartment of the sump all the way on the left (you can see the light hanging over it). The only things not under the stand are the CO2 cylinder, the chiller, and soon to be top off pump and reservoir.
