t appears my baby Tennenti tang has broken its mouth. It is still eating. Is there anything in particular I should be doing? You can see the white part on the pic where the mouth is broken. Thanks.

Is that an infection?

I definately don't have the expertise to help with this one. I would try posting in one of the expert's forums on Wet Web Media or Marine Depot.

no exactly sure. It kind of looks like the top part of his mouth is shifted to the side. It still close its mouth...looks like a horizontal overbite. it may not be broken. It might be an infection that is swelling the lip and making it look like this. Gonna make sure it is well fed and see what happens. Will post updates. Funny thing too that juvenile tennenti tangs are supposed to be light in color and this one is black.

from fish disease forum

i cant really tell. my all out guess is that the fish got hurt and you see the result. as long as the water quality is great, the fish should get better with no issues. if the water and stress is too much, the fish could get a bacterial infection on the wound. my advice is to make sure the water is perfect and you dont add any more fish. feeding a varied diet to boost the immune system is also a great idea to be proactive about the wound.

Was the mouth like this previously?

Maybe it's a color morph with a mouth morph. :-)

Looks like a body/mouth fungus to me. You might pull him to qt and treat with a fungicide/bactericide. Ask in Fish Disease for a recommendation as to which medication---and do not medicate your main tank. Such things respond readily to medication, ugly as they may look.

I have a green chromis that has had its outer part of its mouth locked in the open position for over a year now. It still eats fine.

Seems like you have two fish with a mouth problem ... no expert at all but it suggests to me that there might be a common problem, likely some sort of disease.

Did you just notice that your posts were at "666" - coincidence - I think not. My bet is that your an abusive fish owner and you beat your fish. I am calling DFS (Department of Fish Services).

New tennenti tang has white on part of lip... - 03/12/07
Just got a juvenile tennenti tang. Noticed that its lower lip is white and it looks like it is misaligned with the upper lip.

Mmmm, likely damaged in collection (are collected via fence-nets, herding/directing...)... possibly in holding, transit

The tang is otherwise doing fine and eating like crazy. Any thoughts on what this is and any suggestions on how to treat it? Thanks.

Mmm, just good conditions, nutrition, time going by... Not treatable per se.
