So what's the verdict on this anyway, is running some maxijet mods on a wavemaker that turns on and off a bad idea? It seems like an affordable way to create some dynamic flow in your reef.

no, foe years it has been known a MJ (any) running is fine. You might have to disable the soft start to prevent clicking sounds (normal).

I guess I'm a bit confused. Are you saying that the soft start might encourage clicking sounds?

yes, just superglue that feature

the repeated on/off cycles will wear down your mod. how long it holds up depends on how well it was built.

Personally, I'd limit it to 1 turn off/on a day. So if you had pumps on each end I would do something like left side only on 8 hours , both sides on 8 hours, right side only on 8 hours. So each pump is on a total of 16 hours and off 8 but staggered to achieve the above result.

Back when I used the non-controlled Tunze streams, that is what I did with great results. Trying to do more frequent would probably drive you nuts with the clanking at start up particularly if the prop. has to reverse.

1) What's a average life span of a maxijet mod on a wavemaker verses without a wavemaker?

2) Also would running a MJmod on a seio controller add to the life of the MJ. Seio controllers slow down to 50% then ramp back up.

Thanks,
Greg

SEIO controller might be better [if it can run them?] but a hard start/stop aint a good idea for the MJMODS. I'm pretty good at DIY and I've had issues with a few of them. I wouldn't do it.
