You can buy buckets and lids at the hardware stores like Lowes, HD and Ace.
that is good to know... I've only seen the buckets w/out lids before but I'll be sure to ask this time.

Walmart has 5g white buckets w/lids for about $8
do you know if any of these have a rubber seal?

How many do you need? I have 3 or 4 you can have. (they're salt buckets)

No seal with the walmart ones
I have a 12 gal tank that I'm moving to MN with... so I suppose one or two would be fine.

For that matter you could put just a tiny line of sealant in the groove on the lid and make your own seal.

whoa whoa whoa - let me get this straight - you're leaving us, ditching us like an empty can of easy cheese, and you want to pilfer our spare buckets on your way outta town? What's the scoop - do you think you'll be able to buy your way into the new MN club w/ a few of our lidded buckets?!?
If you are planning to move just the goods and not the water, you can probably get some very large styrofoam boxes from your LFS. All of their shipments come in them and the stores typically throw them away. If you're extra nice, they might even be inclined to share some bag with you. ;)

I don't think he should share someones bag before he drives to MN.
ya ya ya... I was going to try and save the water as finding time to mix it up there will be a REAL pain and highly unlikely.

For heaters can you use about 5 or 6 instant heat packs? Will that keep about 3 gallons of water warm?

Doughnut shops sell empty buckets for about half the price of Home Depot.
