216W T's with Indv. reflectors by TEK......Fuzzy has it, and when he gets his new light setup, i am goign to buy his TEK, i cant wait, that iwll be an AWESOME light setup for my tank, i cant wait, now....here are some more pics....... I met up with Morgan, (thank you Morgan soo much) and he gave me the water i needed, and it was JUST enought...hahaha, and then i put in my LR, nwo that may not be how it stays, the sand clouded up the water just a little bit so i could see how bad it looks now...but i will get alot more rock, and a little more sand, and then the skimmer from Jack (hopefully) and the UV...., so , i will be set, thanks guys for everything, i wanted this to be one of those long threads that will give advice toev eryone about their tanks and how to do things, so , please chare advice with me, and with eveyrone else, thank you....

Glad I could help. That sandstorm should be clear by morning. I can't wait to see the finished product.

snag a piece of filter floss from something and wrap the intake on that power head and your sand storm will clear up quick..... you sure didnt waste any time getting water in that thing:)

Is this still considered an option? I thought that everyone had realized that cycling with fish does not help your cycle, and only torments the fish subjected to the toxic levels of ammonia, trites, and trates. Plus, chances are, you'll end up with a damsel that you don't want in the end...

hahahahaha, true, but no, it is fishless, i have two little hermits in there witht he LR, but they came in with the rock and i didnt knwo they were even in the LR tank....so, they are in there and all the room is overwhelming them with energy and they have to scale every bit of the tank..... so, the water cleared up a bit by thismorning, i bet it will be fully clear by the time i get back from school.

Very cool. Glad to hear you've educated yourself on the topic. You'd be surprised how many people still believe that using a damsel is beneficial to a cycle. Looking forward to seeing more pictures as it clears.

I was always under the impression it was the food you feed the fish and its poop that help jump start the cycle, not the fish it self so a pinch of food decaying in there should help it along?

yeah, that is waht i have heard, that you put in fish food and maybe a (dead) shimo or something...

The idea is that the fish's processes cause ammonia, which jump start the cycle. However, in a lr system, there is enough die off of organisms on the rock so that adding anything else isn't necessary...

I smelled my LR and it was all cured though...??? Should i put some meat in there, like a silverside or a peice of shrimp or something?

I agree considerably, but like you said many people (even educated hobbist) still damsel their tanks. If the LR is cured, a couple jumbo shrimp with be great. There are other ways of doing it too but thats the safest simplist way to do it.

Have you decided if your going to build your own canopy or get the matching AGA one?

seth16
03/08/2007, 03:27 PM
I dont know, i havent figured that out yet, i am probably getting the 48" Tek, so a canopy would be good, i have never built one myself, but it sounds like a project!!!
