Epson salt adds phosphates along with the magnesium. I don't like it unless your using it for pop-eye. Magnesium Chloride is easily accessible from Post Apple Scientific, inc and other chemical places.

you can, and i do. but be sure that you are testing for magnesium first. i will add that you will need to be sure to keep up with your water changes. Epson salt is Magnesium Sulfate. you can get a build up of Sulfate if you use it a lot, which you shouldnt need to. the sulfate build up is one reason Randy Holmes-Farley went to using Magnesium Chloride for his mag part of the homemade 2 part. be sure to check out this article on how to mix up a magnesium supplement as well as the rest of the 2 part.

Also, you can find mag chloride at places like Home Depot. It is a water softener.
