How many shots does it take.....

How many shots do most people drink of Tequilla (or their hard liquor of choice) before they call it quits, pass out, or stop drinking for health reasons? I appreciate the input of those who suggest that drinking is bad, it leads to addiction, health problems, etc, but please don't discus that here. :)

very rarely do shots, maybe to celebrate something, or to say happy birthday etc. 2 or 3 shots

mixed drinks, depends on my mood. on a good night I can knock back a fifth of whisky, be in bed by 3AM & up for work @ 5am
mostly, as a social drinker, I call it quits after 3 adult beverages

Oh my goodness. Don't even start. Because of the Relay for Life that my dorm is supporting, there are pink sheets of printer paper across from EVERY doorway in the entire freakin building stating a statistic or another, specifically one that says "Women who drink are 40-70% more likely to develop breast cancer."

Hows that for a sobering thought?

BTW I'm almost positive that that's a incorrectly stated statment, or the data is cherrypicked. That's what we learn in PHI2100 Critical Thinking philosophy... How to realize skewed or incorrectly stated statistics :)

I imagine it's the kind of tolerence you build up, your size, many factors. If you social drink, you drink a lot less then if it's an all out party.

I chased 9 shots with freakin whiskey sour mix (w/o the whiskey) and some hypnotique that my roomate had leftover from his b-day like 4 months ago... and we had [I] ONE cigarette between the 3 of us to throw us/me over the edge...

I think there are too many variables. size, tolerance,metabolism, food intake slows the rate of absorption. what works for me might be way too much for somebody else.(or not enough)

Onereef makes a good point...body size, tolerance, metabolism and food intake have a LOT to do with it. That being said...I'm a tequila fan. I rarely do shots anymore (I prefer higher end tequilas, a few shots in a glass over ice), I've been known to hit the 10 or 12 mark on a rough night. Tequila's pretty funny though...for one, it makes me hallucinate (no other alcohol has this affect on me). For another, I usually don't get a hangover after a tequila night unless I drank other alcohols in between. I have found that after 4 or 5 shots, anything after that is pretty much overkill as far as the effect, but YMMV.

I don't drink much anymore, but tequila shots are about the only thing I like if I'm actually looking for a buzz. Like Q-ball, it doesn't give me hangover as long as I don't mix it with anything else. Four or five shots over the course of a few hours is generally enough, but there have been a few occasions where the number was around 10 over a couple of hours, and a couple of times I reached 20 over the course of the entire evening (about a 6 hour span.) Never a hangover.

Now, white russians make a GREAT chaser, but the cream seriously limits the amount you can ingest if you don't want to see it again :)

These days it's an occasional glass of wine w/dinner and sometimes when the band is playing I might have ONE shot on one or two of our breaks -- no more.

Yea. So tequilla night was... good and bad. I found my limit! I'm 180lbs, 6' and I found that I stop enjoying the night after 6. I went up to 9 (my 2 roomates and I killed the 750mL bottle) and just felt like crap. I'm still waking up now, 12 hours later. I get terrible (12-18hour) hangovers from almost anything I drink.

I don't think I'll ever have a white russian again. I threw a "Big Lebowski White Russian" night, where we drank about 1/2 a white russian every time The Dude made one in the movie. That night my friend almost broke his ankle hi-fiving stop signs...

I imagine that my days of heavy college drinking are *pun intended* drying up quickly, so I enjoy while I can. Soon I see myself only drinking a glass of wine occasionally with dinner or socially or something.

Oh yea, and usually drinking higher end drinks keeps hangovers away. I'm A. a reefer, and B. a college student. A+B= no $$$. No money means that when we splurge, splurge means a $25 bottle of 1800. Now for last Christmas, I received a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue Label, and I only take occasional sips from it, so I'll never experience a hangover from that :)

I was a medic....I had the resources...gimme a break !

"How Much is Too Much?
Scientists use the term "lethal dose" (LD) to describe the dose (or in the case of alcohol, the concentration) that produces death in half the population (LD:50). Most authorities agree that blood alcohol concentrations in the 0.40 - 0.50% range meet the requirements for the LD:50. The blood alcohol concentration is the percentage of alcohol in the blood that results after alcohol is absorbed from the stomach into the blood supply. Obviously, studies of lethal dosage cannot be tested empirically in the laboratory, so the LD:50 for alcohol is estimated from post-mortem cases in which alcohol poisoning was found to be the primary cause of death. However, there are documented cases of fatal overdoses from alcohol at blood alcohol concentrations lower than 0.40%. To place this in perspective, a 100-pound woman or man who consumed 9-10 standard drinks, respectively, in less than an hour would be in the LD:50 range. I tell ya what....when I was in hawaii..I was on the wagon for like 18 months...just by choice; anyway...I was ALWAYS the designated driver and we'd go party with these Dr.s and I got to drive some really sweet cars !


Though on more than one night, I stayed up ALL night long looking after the severely self-inflicted drunk wounds with IV's and multi-vit banana bags !

BTW the IV idea I had heard before. I wish I could try it, but I don't think that I handle being within 6 feet of a needle while drunk. Or while sober...
