I've got Xenia taking up a quarter of my 180. I'm not really interested in trying to cultivate it and resell it right now cause I'm not in the best of health and don't feel like messing with it. I just want to trim it back cause its starting to move down the length of the tank.
thanks!

A razor blade will work fine. ;)

I use the blade of an algae scraper or a steak knife depending on the location of the xenia.

I just grab the stalk and pull it off the rock. It always does great.

thanks guys. Don't know much about the spreading of them, was afraid if I just ripped them off the rock that it might spill juice and spread everywhere or something, haha.

I've thought of trying one of these out:

Mike, your method isn't bad but they just come back and worse than before. Try napalm!

I know how you feel mine is growing like mad too. Its actually just as easy to peel it off the rocks rathere than cutting it. This way it wont grow back then I through it in my sump on a pile of rubble rock after a day or two it is attached to something now trade in for store credit , piece of cake!:D

i cut with regular scissors... one day i am going to try taking the cuttings and putting them in a food processor with saltwater and then dropping that into a tupperware with rubble... 10000000 xenias from 1 stalk... muahahahahaha

i have a LFS that will give me pretty much anything in his tank when i bring in my harvest... hell i gave him 6 stalks last time for a $75 hammer... one of the pieces i gave him is marked for $75 lol

I peel it off. If you grab it quickly and firmly, before it can deflate, you can peel it clean off, IME, without leaving any behind that'll regrow...

You might not be interested in harvesting it now but once you do and make a profit, you'll be hooked LOL

If I do become interested in harvesting it, how hard are they to cut off and then reattach it to LR rubble? Do you rubberband it around, or just set it in sump next to some rubble and hope it sticks?

you dont have to hope, it will attach to whatever it can. it climbs up the eggcrate in my frag tank. i also prefer the peel by hand method, it gets the rock clean if you do it right. i usually peel a bunch off and throw them into my frag tank, and throw rocks onto them, ancoring them down. within two days it will be attached.

Xenia was the aquatic answer to Kudzu. That stuff probably can live in a septic tank.
