I'm getting close to fully stocked in my 75, but I would like to maybe get an odd looking type of fish that would be good with what is already in there (see below for tankmates).

Personally I have always loved porcupine puffers, but I have a lot of shrimp, crabs and snails in my tank that I would like to see live ;)

I had a porky once years back in a 30 gallon tank (before I really knew what I was doing), and he lived for years until I gave up the tank (then I took him back to the LFS), and he never attacked my shrimp and hermits, but I don't know if that's a chance I want to take now (now that I'm more educated). The more I read about puffers, the more I think I just got lucky with the one I had.

I also love the look of cowfish, but don't know if a 75 is the right environment (size wise) for one, even if I got it small.

So I'm asking RC for ideas. I'd like an odd type of fish that could go well in a 75 with all I have so far. Any thoughts?

oh, and if you can post a pic of the odd fish you have in mind, that would help me out greatly, as I don't know all of them by heart.

I'm wishing I had a much bigger tank. I recently found some batfish in a LFS. They are so awesome looking.

Years ago in my old 55 gal FOWLR tank I had a tassle filefish (at least I think that's what it was called). I don't know how many times I heard someone say "WHAT IS THAT??" when they saw it, but it was usually the first thing they asked about. I'm not sure how safe they are with shrimp, crabs, and snails though. I know I had a cleaner shrimp back then that he never bothered. It was friendly with all my other fish.

I am also a person favors the unusual, and I hate to say it, if you want unusual you usually end up paying more for it.

You also have to remember the unusual ones are usually unusual because they are harder to keep.

My favorite thing to do is to look at www.liveaquaria.com , marinedepot.com etc... and look at the fish under the misc. fish heading.
These lead to odd frogfish, flashlight fish, sea goblins, sea moth, or sea dragons, etc...

good luck!

I just saw two batfish at an LFS and the owner told me they need extremely peaceful tankmates and make sure they're eating and even then it's not an easy fish.

I like my possum wrasse. It swims with a hovering motion, similar to puffers. It's so weird looking that most other fish ignore it. All it does is hover around the tank picking at the rock all day.
Mine is not the most colorful specimen I've seen, but its homeliness makes it cool

I was gonna suggest angler fish....The last two pics of the post right above this one are examples. I have seen a couple people keep them in reef tanks though they had big fish in all of them.
