We just tested our water, params are as follows:

PH - 8.1
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 0

Now the thing that confuses me is when we did our phosphate test, the reading was 1.0 ppm, how bad is that? If it is bad, what is the best way to remedy the situation?

Thanks :)

Water changes with RO/DI water will lower the phosphates.

We have the intention of getting one, but how high is that reading to begin with? Is it something to be concerned about?

Its high enough to cause algae problems. You WILL want to get it worked out ASAP before you get a hair algae problem.

If you dont have an RO/DI unit you can get RO/DI water from LFS that deal in Marine Fish. It was the way I had to go until I came up with the money.

Speaking from experience; you do want to get it worked out before the Hair alage sets in. It is more work to get rid of the alge then taking atrip down the road for some RO/DI water.
