Could I make a refugium out of the low grade acrylic from a home improvement store? If not why? Thanks Nigel

yes and no. depends on the depth of the tank, and the way you support the acrylic. If it is going to have baffles glued into it, then you could most likely go as high as 15" as the baffles will help to hold the sides together. You would need to eurobrace it though.
Whn you say low grade, you mean extruded right? and even braced to hell, I wouldnt chance anything thinner than 1/4".. IMO/E
