How much chaeto would I need for my 55 gal. FOWLR to effectively reduce my nitrates? How large a space in my 10 gal. sump would I need to dedicate to holding the macro algae? I've been debating using what limited space I have in my sump for chaeto since most of the sump is used for skimmer and return pump or getting a Aquafuge hangon. Only concern I have with the hangon is potential flooding. Thanks to everyone for their advice and input.

Just buy a softball or so size portion it has grown very well and fast for me and if you do not put any divider in your sump I'm sure it will completely fill it after some time

A small clump will do. In fact, by having a smaller clump of macro-algae will create less competition for nutrients, thus increasing the growth rate of the plants. And when growth rate increases, the benefits of it for your aquarium is also increased (oxygen reaction/production, nutrient/nitrate consumption) =)
