Hi.
look at this: http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2006/12/aaeditorial

I found this and I was very surprised that this person keeps triggers that are not reef safe in his reef!

Does anyone here keeps triggers (except blue throat triggers that are reef safe) in his reef? If yes, could we have a pic?

Thanks! I'm just curious!

I had this Niger for about 6 months now, I think. I acquired it unintentionally, but he's been well-behaved so far.

Nigers are reef safe. I really like them me too. What I wanted to know is: does anyone keeps a triggers that is not reef safe (ex: clown or huma huma trigger) in his reef?

Lev F: you have a very beautiful tank!

Thanks!

Mine doesn't kill the snails, shrimps, (even the tiny anemone shrimps) , and crabs that I have in my tank. But then again, he is only an inch in length.

I have a clown and huma in my 300 gallon reef tank. The leave everything alone except sometimes they go after a snail or two. The clown was put in about 6 months ago and has grown from 1.5 inches to 5-6 inches. The huma was put in about 2 months ago and was already 5-6 inches.

That's interesting rwessels, What else do you have with them? Any ornamental crustaceans?

I don't know if there's any such thing as an ABSOLUTELY reef safe trigger (or fish, for that matter) but I think most people consider nigers, bluethroats, and sargassums to be pretty safe. I've kept 2 pinktails in 2 reefs also who never bothered anything...

If your looking for someone to tell you their reef safe so you can buy one, just remember that it is still a gamble. I've seen tanks with Picasso, clown and now crosshatch triggers but I have also seen triggers tear up reefs to shreds.

I have a Pink Tail in my 75. I had him for 4 years in a reef tank - no problem with corals, but a killer of snails and hermits. The one corner of my tank looks like the Legendary Snail Grave Yard. Shell upon shell upon more shells.
