My 120 has two overflows and I need help finding the right return pump. I bought it used so I really don't know how much flow each overflow can handle. Looking at All-Glass' website it says it can do about 1200gph so should I get a Mag24 or Mag 18 or some other pump. Thanks in advance.

I run a Mag 12 for my return. There might be better pumps but the Mag has given me 2 years of good service so far.

IS that enough flow for you? What is the most it can handle?

You don't necessarily want all of your flow to go through your sump. The argument being made by many folks is that very high sump flow is detrimental to efficient skimming as well as raising the risk of micro-bubbles, etc. You could aim for 600-800GPH through the sump and return. Then, supplement that with in-tank flow or a closed loop. Maybe you could look at using one overflow to feed the sump (with a Mag 12) and have the second one provide water for a closed loop using a second pump.

I guess that makes sense. Thanks

Hey Lou,

Nice to see a new tank in the works, 24 just couldn't satisfy you. I'm not running a lot of flow through my new set ups sump, only 5 to 6 times turn over. The rest I am going to do with the maxi jet modded powerheads. You can also grind out the slots in the mega flow a little with a dremel to get more flow. TA did it and upstatedave. They might be able to give you some more info on it.

Hope the new set up goes well for you.

Thanks Steve. Notice I'm asking this in here and not in the other forum right? How's it going in there? Still in an uproar?

I have a 120 and I run the blue line pumps about 1200 gallons and a closed loop and 1 tunze. The blue line splits into two return lines. my close loop is a dart hooked up to an OM 4way.
