I know superglue is reef safe when it comes to gluing down frags and stuff, but has anybody here used groilla glue for plumbing and just gluing things into place?

I kind of doubt it's reef safe. It dries in 2-3 hours and expands and "foams" while it dries. That alone makes it kind of impractical.

Being polyurethane I would suspect that once it's fully cured that it would be quite inert...right?

I agree that it's probably impractical for aquarium use though.

no you have to use cyanoacrylates like superglue GEL or BSI IC GEL

it will not dry under water, or it will not "foam" under water, making the thing you are glueing not as stable as you want.

plus the chemical in gorilla glue cant be good for the tank,

I am building an acrylic wet/dry overflow box for my sump and wanted to use this stuff to hold the pieces in place and let it dry for a few days. But if it's going to leech any contaminants into the tank then I'll just stick to the super glue. Thanks for the help.

Hold on you are using superglue to glue the acrylic together?

You don't want to use superglue. Use acryllic glue to bond acrylic to acrylic.

I built a sump using acrylic sheets. Use Weldon 16. Works like a dream.

I had heard Weld-On 3 is the same thing as MEK which canbe found at Lowe's with other solvents. Can anyone confirm this to be true? If so, this would be a good source.

I never started it. That's why I asked questions before I started building it. I guess silicon would be overkill once the weldon has had a chance to set in? There I go asking questions again...

I've used it to glue a few things for my tank and it works quite well. You can't get it wet though until it's completely dry. I had the exit pipe on my ER come loose and the glue worked like a charm. You do have to make sure the pieces being glued are held securely in place as it sets.
