View Full Version : Is Octopus a good skimmer?
hi, i am trying to decide on which skimmer to get for my 75 tank. I was going to go with Euro-Reef RS135 but its cost ~$340, which is a little too much for me at the moment :( i need to get something rated for larger tanks as i might upgrade to bigger tank in the future and hate to go trough this again.
then i found this puppy Octopus NW-150 (http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=749) and its only $170 and its rated for up to 250 gallon tanks. did some research and it has tons of good reviews.
what do you guys think, i know RS135 would probably be probably better but its twice as much.
thanks for your help.

The Octopus is an excellent choice. I've recently upgraded to a NW-125 on my 110 gallon and am very satisfied with the results. I would highly recommend that you perform the o-ring modification from the start. Replacing the washers with o-rings makes all the differance in the world.

Dr. Hank, could you elaborate??? what size o-rings and what are the benefits???? i have the NW200...i would love to upgrade it if it helps..mine already works really well, but if i can upgrade, that would be great!!! i would check out Aquariumextreme.com.. you will most likely find it cheaper there!!

The Octopus and ER are good entry level skimmers. You will be happy with either one. There is a huge thread on modifications to the Octopus, and the O-rings are a top priority. ER has a strong following also, I am sure you can glean some good info from that thread.

I agree with ronjeremy. Aquariumextreme has the cheapest prices by far on the octopus skimmers and watch for sales. they have some awesome ones.

They have 3 models rated for 250 gallons on aquariumextreme. What are the differences and which one is most efficient?
