Has anyone ever built a triangular aquarium?

I am just curious because I have never seen an aquarium with such a shape, but it seems a great idea to me!

It will be difficult to get into the corners for cleaning algae, etc. off the glass. A pentagon or quarter round corner tank is probably the closest you'll find mass produced.

Not only would the corner be hard to clean, the there would be a rather large amount of wasted space.

lots of "triangle" shaped tanks available.
often referred to as corner tanks.

nah, most are acrylic and actually have five sides. probably because of the corners.

And on the contrary, my 100g is a glass pentagon corner. Most tanks of this shape would still not be acrylic because it would require two joints made with beveled edges, and it's just plain difficult to get a gluable edge that way. Most of the acrylic tanks you would see in this basic shape are the rounded front tanks like BeanAnimal mentions (or as I called them, quarter rounds).

I guess based on your dimensions it's probably a 90, 45, 45, a corner tank?

I think the biggest advantage of a triangular aquarium, over the aquariums of other shapes,is that it is deep enough to allow beautiful decorations using live rock and live corals.Another advantage(especially for a 90*,45*,45* aquarium) is that fish should equally move in all directions while the viewing pane is bigger than the other two panes(something that is not the same for a cube aquarium). As for cleaning the corners,it may be difficult when approaching them, but you could clean them using your hands and a 100%cotton towel(so as to be soft).

Heh?

Gotta say that is one odd interpretation, er I mean "advantage". As compared to what henry? A cube of what dimensions? Are we talking most "swimming area" per footprint? Per Tank Volume?

What strikes me as odd is the fact that I did not know fish referenced a center point and the distance they could travel from that point in all directions

I am not sure what logic you used to derive this... but I think Dr. Spock would consider it illogical

Deep enough compared to what?

This the reason that a few of us said it would be HARDER to keep them clean. Not that they COULDNT be cleaned

As usaul Henry, you have an interesting but very odd take or perspective on something that most of us would never have thought of.

I don't agree with you, but that does not mean that your posts are not entertaining or your ideas are wrong. I suppose to each his own when it comes to aquarium shape.

Deep enough compared to aquariums of other shapes, which have the same volume and height with a triangular aquarium(especially 90*,45*,45*,the other triangular aquariums do not worth any attention).

I have seen 1 triangular shaped aquarium (looked like a pyramid). It's located at a LFS in Monterey, CA called "Pets 'n Ponds". I'll take a picture of it next time I'm in the area.

Their web-site sucks, but if you want their contact info:

Thanks for information about the pyramid aquarium, but by saying triangular I mean the footprint of an aquarium.

I've built a few for customers, not difficult to build at all from acrylic. I think they're kinda cool though as stated above - the front corners may be difficult to keep clean. I think most are framed so the outer coupla inches are covered.
