Ah! A man after my own heart.

Those are some of my fave books too. I loooove reading. Especially the old classics.

If I don't have a book to read, I tend to go a little stir crazy.

The Kite Runner is a great story.

Fall on your Knees is good.

Angela's Ashes is amazing. Don't read it though if you are depressed, or if poverty and desease upset you. If not, then Teacher Man, and 'Tis are great books too. All of these are written by Frank McCourt.

ANything by Augusten Boroughs is great. 'DRY' is especially good.

Excellent! I just listened to a couple pages from The Kite Runner and Fall on your Knees on audible.com. Both sound very interesting!

Thanks for the tips!

Anyone else? I know there must be 1 or 2 other readers out there amongst our gazillion members....

Well if you are reading those how about "Mutiny on the Bounty" or the whole series by Patrick O'Brian that begins with "Master and Commander"

I finally read James Clavell's King Rat last Spring. It was great. Anything by James Bradley, Flyboys and Flags of our Fathers are also very good. Oh, and you may wish to try any of the books by the famous sci-fi and fantasy writer C.J. Cherryh (did I spell it right?).

Try "The Life of Pi" and "The Lovely Bones." "To Kill a Mockingbird" is always great the second, third or fourth time around. And "The Grapes of Wrath", since you're listing some classics.

can't believe no one has said "All Quiet On The Western Front" yet . My favorite book off all time. I've read it about 10 times now, and it has yet to get old I highly recommend it

"Im Westen Nichts Neues"

The manual for the robotic arm on the space shutle isn't bad for some light reading. You can find it at NASA's website.

I've read my favorite book several times: "The Lord of the Rings." The Hobbit is good, too, but kinda dry after reading Tolkein's masterpiece. But if you haven't read it, read The Hobbit before you read the trilogy. I strongly recommend anything by Tom Clancy. My favorite of his is, "The Sum of All Fears." I also second FKDenton's remark: anything by Mario Puzo.

Have you studied poetry at all? I find that different poetry is sometimes more fitting than reading. Gives the mind a path less travelled by, to strike out a new path. "Forward!!!" he cried, from the rear, and the front rank died. No, that's not just a line from Pink Floyd.

Pretty much everything from Stephen King to Stephen Hawking.

From John Calvin to Calvin and Hobbs.

Thanks for ALL THE SUGGESTIONS! You have now given me dozens of reasons to keep up my audible membership....

I think I'm going to start Life of Pi tonight!

Many thanks!

I agree with the above that said the The Kite Runner. I found it amazing,
also
The Power and the Glory, by Graham Greene was extremely good too.
If you are into fantasy, take a look at Mercedes Lackey, she is well known for her "The Last Herald Mage" trilogy.

My all time favourite is The Vampire Armand by Anne Rice. I love her books because she does a nice mix of fantasy with a bit of history mixed in, along with her attention to detail and twisted romance.

Also another good one is Heart of Darkness by Jospeh Conrad (I think)

ok just authors then

no particular order just off the top of my head -

Dean Koontz - older is better in most cases
Robert Jordan - awesome author recently passed away
Terry Brooks - again older is better, kind of writes to a format but nice reads
Terry goodkind - very good story and charcters
Richard North Paterson - crime stories
James Patterson - sometimes odd but great stories
Vince Flynn - kind of Tom Clancy but much faster paced
L.E. Modistitt - love this series
Daniel Silva - spy
Micheal Connley - crime stories - Harry Bosch novels are the best

Try some of those and let me know
