Sprinkler nozzle to automatically clean skimmer neck?
Anyone have experience with this method for automatically cleaning the skimmer neck? Seems too simple to actually work well?

Seems counterproductive to me to have water running down the skimmer neck. It would have to be on a timer, otherwise I don't think the skimmer would be very efficient. That being said, it does sound like a good way to keep scum from building up. Hopefully anything dislodged by the sprinkler head would be pushed up into the collection cup.

Maybe its only ran once the skimmer is shut off and they manually turn it on. I think its a great idea...as long as it works...a good sized pump would probably work pretty well with that.
Where did you get the picture from? Maybe ask the source of the picture about it.

It's another way to create a wet neck skimmer, the counter flow of the water going down the neck keeps the sludge from formming on the neck. There was a post a few months ago about it, but you have to be able to search for it and I can't. let us know how well it works for you.

In that fashion I don't think it will work as a wet neck. The spray would blow the foam back down and never allow it to go into the cup.

don't think he's designing it to work as a wet neck. This is just for periodic cleaning right?

I could see that it would push foam down if in direct contact.
But this isn't that type of sprinkler, you can adjust it...see the screw in the picture. You can make it fan out and not spray the foam.

No matter how you adjust it there will be a wall of water coming from the center out and that wall of water will prevent foam from hitting the cup. Spraying from the center has the same effect as capping the neck. It is a barrier blocking foam. :-)
Definitely not a wet neck.

not a wetneck. just a washdown system to clean the neck every day or so

My experience with washdown systems (huge RK2 skimmer and DIY) is that you need to run them at least several times a day to do any good.
Skimmate is generally a little oily so it wants to stick to the neck and cup. You'd need a high pressure source to do much good. A spray coupled with a rotating brush like Fudges is the ultimate self cleaning head.

the picture of the skimmer is a clone of the ORCA needlewheel skimmer...they sell them on ebay and call them Mako.
