thanks but im pretty sure that i got it working perfectly except the delay ( currently it would be going at somthing like 1000hz
the delay im saving till i make the rest of the thing incase any programing changes ( and hten id need to change the delay anyways)
iv run a few weeks of simulation and the 'psudo' random number gen works perfectly with no more areas that it gets caught in a loop

i too am interested in this project. i use VFD's aka Inverters every day, and in the industrial setting you usually one find them in one form 3 phase, you can run them with single phase outputs though, it usually cuts the output amperage by half though. this drive looks to be soemthing that would be easy to use in our systems http://www.controlres.com/stratus.htm
but why spend that much for that drive when you can buy a controller that is about the same made specifically for our hobby? also, if you are trying to make a wavemaker system, why are you attempting to make it totally random? i would think a couple source inputs using standard timers would work for the trigger to maintain 2 different speeds. low speed to keep the pump from turning totally off (say 25 hz) and high speed (60-120 hz, you could probably overdrive these motors (61-120 hz) as most euro style motors are capable of far higher frequency than american style motors)
